Donald F. Schnell, son of Oliver and Hazel (Saville) Schnell, was born on August 5, 1931, in Cherokee, Iowa. He graduated from Cherokee High School and went on to attend Iowa State Teachers College. He served his country in the United States Army until his honorable discharge.
Donald dedicated over 30 years of his life to teaching high school math, shaping the lives of countless students with his knowledge and steady presence. Beyond the classroom, he had a strong work ethic and a generous spirit, which led him to spend time building houses in Mexico for those in need.
He had a deep appreciation for culture and travel. One of his favorite destinations was Amsterdam in the fall, and he also enjoyed visiting the St. Petersburg Basilica in Russia. Closer to home, he found joy in visiting Six Flags in Chicago, where his love for roller coasters brought out his adventurous side.
Donald was also musically inclined. He could play the piano and found great enjoyment in listening to classical music. He had a particular fondness for Shakespeare and often listened to recordings of his works.
Donald Schnell passed away on April 27, 2026, at St. Luke Lutheran Nursing Home in Spencer, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by numerous friends and relatives.
