Janet K. Bowen , age 67, of Spencer, Iowa, passed away surrounded by love on June 4, 2025, at Spencer Post Acute Rehabilitation Center.

Janet Kay Bowen was born and raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to William Charles and Helen Katherine (Pace) Bowen. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1976. After completing her education, Janet dedicated herself to caring for others—first as a home health aide at the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA), and later as part of the Alegent Health Management Team in Omaha, Nebraska. She served as a supervisor for over 15 years before retiring in 2019.

In retirement, Janet found joy in simple pleasures. She loved trips to the casino, cooking for her family, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her vibrant personality, sharp wit, and unforgettable sense of humor brought joy to all who knew her.

Janet is survived by her two children, daughter, Daisy Hicks-Fichter (Nick Fichter) and son, Justin (Emily) Hicks; husband, Carlous “J.R.” B. Wilcox; beloved grandchildren, Danzel and Iris Fichter, Jack and Sophia Hicks; brothers, Jim Bowen and Doug (Carrie) Bates; sisters, Debbie (Scott) Carnes, Shelly (Dan) Moore, along with many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Helen Bowen; sisters Jayne (who raised Janet after the passing of her mother), Judy, Joan, and Jennifer; brothers, Jack, Jeff, Johnny, and Rodney; and the father of her children, Charles Hicks.
