Marie J. Stover , age 71, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Spencer Post Acute Rehabilitation Center in Spencer, Iowa.
Marie Joann Stover, daughter of Joseph and Dorothy (Sievers) Hoffman, was born on August 3, 1954, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Faith was a cornerstone of her upbringing. She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven, Iowa.
Marie grew up near Gillett Grove, Iowa and graduated from South Clay High School in 1972. She continued her education at Western Iowa Tech Community College, earning an associate degree. Marie dedicated her professional life to serving others, working as a medical receptionist at Avera Medical Clinic in Spencer for 46 years before retiring.
On February 15, 1992, Marie was united in marriage to Glenn Stover in Spencer, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with one son.
Marie was best known for her joyful, light-hearted spirit. Her warm smile and infectious laugh could brighten anyone’s day. A natural conversationalist, she had the unique ability to make strangers feel like friends—what was supposed to be a quick grocery trip, often turned into an hour-long visit. Her role at the clinic was a perfect fit for her social nature.
In her free time, Marie loved needlework and was talented in embroidery, sewing, and crocheting. She also enjoyed gardening and, above all, spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Dorothy Hoffman; her sisters, Ann Marie and Judy Ann, both in infancy; her brother, Jim Hoffman; her nephew, Brian Hoffman; her in-laws, Eugene and Audrey Stover; and her sister-in-law, Cheryll Neppl.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Glenn Stover of Greenville; her son, Smokey Joe Stover (Hunter Origer) of Greenville; her grandchildren, Geoffrey and Syleste Stover; siblings, Don Hoffman of Dickens, Iowa, Kathy (Paul) Weber of Sioux City, Iowa, Joe (Janelle) Hoffman of Ruthven, Iowa, and Terri (Jeff) Sundall of Ruthven, Iowa; sister-in-law, Julie Hoffman of Weston, Missouri; along with many other loving relatives and friends.
