Marjorie “Margie” Ann Gustoff, daughter of Louis and Florence (Whittrock) Umscheid, was born on June 27, 1940, on a farm outside of Milford. She attended school in Spirit Lake and graduated from Spirit Lake High School on May 26, 1958.

On July 15, 1960, Margie was united in marriage to Verle Gustoff Sr. at his mother’s home in Spencer. The couple shared 52 years of marriage before Verle’s passing in September of 2012.

Margie dedicated many years working in kitchens throughout the community, including at Spencer Hospital, Walmart, and SuperValu. She truly loved cooking and caring for others through the meals she prepared especially everyone’s favorite chicken and noodles. In her free time while waiting for her “books”, she enjoyed drinking coffee, playing BINGO, sewing/crafts and spending time with her family, who meant everything to her.

Margie passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her husband, Verle; brothers, Bob, Jim, Fritz, and Dick; and sister, Marietta.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Marie, LaDonna (Greg), Verle “Tike” (Jamie), and Jeannette; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren; brother, Don (Leslie); sister, Juanita; and sister-in-law, Jeanette.
