OFFICIANT
Andy Geelan
Owen James Kies, son of Mike Kies and Jenny Thelen, was born on May 7, 2005, in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up in Spencer and graduated from Spencer High School in 2023. Following high school, Owen attended Iowa Lakes Community College for a year before beginning his career as a welder with Ranco.
He was a hardworking young man who took pride in what he did. He was also proud to be involved with the welding committee at Iowa Lakes Community College and was recently added as a member of the Iowa Lakes Community College Welding Advisory Board. Sharing his skills and helping others learn the trade he had grown to enjoy was something that meant a great deal to him.
Outside of work, Owen loved spending time doing the things that made him happy. He had a particular love for his motorcycles and enjoyed fishing, golfing for a while, and spending time with his pets, especially his cat and dog. Those who knew Owen will remember him for the interests and simple moments that brought him joy, as well as the relationships he built with family and friends.
Owen is survived by his mother, Jenny Thelen of Spencer; his father, Mike Kies of Linn Grove; sister, Danie Holmberg of Spencer; grandparents, Dan and Tina Thelen of Carroll and Francis and Carolyn Kies of Storm Lake; great-grandparents, Allen and Louella Thelen; aunts and uncles, Christy (Keith) Horan, Jeff (Stacy) Kies, Christina (Mark) Martin, and Kevin Thelen; cousins Madelynn, Melany, Mara, Drayke, Alex, Regan, Paxton, Athena, and Gregory; as well as many extended family members and friends who cared deeply for him.
Owen's family and friends will remember him for the young man he was, the things he loved, and the memories they shared together.
