Robert “Pritch” Arthur Pritchard, son of Robert and Leverna (Mohler) Pritchard, was born on January 12, 1939. He attended Bedford High School and, following graduation, served his country in the United States Navy as a radar operator. During his time in the Navy, he had the opportunity to travel extensively, visiting ports throughout Asia and Europe.
After completing his military service, Pritch lived and worked in the Kansas City area, holding a variety of positions. In the mid-1970s, he moved to Spencer, where he purchased and successfully operated a debt collection agency for many years until his retirement. Even in retirement, Pritch remained active, working part-time delivering bundles of the Spencer Reporter and Shopper to surrounding communities.
Pritch served as president of the Iowa Collectors Association in 1998 and was a dedicated Clay County Democrat Treasurer for several years. In the early 1990s, he played an important role in helping establish a permanent Spencer headquarters and shelter for CAASA (Center Against Abuse and Sexual Assault).
He had a wide range of interests, including active involvement in Democratic Party activities at all levels, reading, collecting books, and dancing with a singles club.
Pritch passed away on April 6, 2026 at his home in Spencer. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Beverly Schultz of Meridian, Idaho.
He is survived by his nieces, Laurie Bergey of Boise, Idaho, and Kathy Craig of Boise, Idaho; and his cousin, Jim Sandage of Sioux City, Iowa.
