Ronald “Ron” Dean Swenson, of Spencer, Iowa, passed away surrounded by family. He was born on March 30, 1936, in Cleghorn, Iowa, to Clifford and Ellenor (Hill) Swenson.
Ron grew up in rural Paullina, Iowa and graduated from Paullina High School in 1954. After graduation, He proudly served his country in the United States Navy until he was honorably discharged on December 27, 1961. He moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he attended college and learned to work on airplanes for Boeing.
On October 4, 1964, Ron was united in marriage to Linda Smoot at Trinity Lutheran Church in Royal, Iowa. The couple made their home in Spencer for three years before moving to Tulsa for another three years. They later spent a short time in Arizona before returning to Spencer, where they made their permanent home and raised their family. Together, Ron and Linda opened their hearts and home to foster 23 babies over the years — a true reflection of their compassion and love.
Ron had a curious and creative mind. He loved inventing things, working on cars, mowing grass, and listening to polka music. He enjoyed dancing at local dance halls and was a talented musician, playing both the accordion and Hawaiian guitar.
Ron worked as an electrician for many years for Crescent Electric. In his later years, Ron and Linda owned and operated Ron Swenson Electrical. He was known for his hard work, humor, and adventurous spirit.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Swenson of Spencer, Iowa; children, Jack Swenson of Spencer, Iowa, Steve (Lori) Swenson of Indianola, Iowa, and Sara (Allen) Williams of Spencer, Iowa; grandchildren, Shey, Anna Marie, Brittany, Marissa, Malorie, Jacob, Misty, Anjel, and Noah; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Darlene (Larry) Mortenson of Jefferson, Kansas; as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores Meyer; brother-in-law, Vern Meyer; and his father- and mother-in-law, Glenn and Corabell Smoot.
