CLERGY
Rev. Sedar W. Shako
Stewert “Stu” Lee Van Maasdam Sr., son of Cornelius “Casey” and Donna (Stevens) Van Maasdam, was born on November 14, 1951, in LeMars, Iowa. He attended high school at Harris-Lake Park and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lake Park.
Stu married Suzanne Tryon in 1969, and together they welcomed three children. In 1987, he married Angie Scheirholt, and they welcomed three more children.
Throughout his working years, Stu was employed at Berkley’s for over 19 years, Schwan’s for nine years, and most recently, Menards for six years. He touched many lives through his service.
Stu had a creative spirit and enjoyed exploring his artistic side. He was a talented artist who appreciated Bob Ross paintings and enjoyed working on creative projects of his own. He absolutely loved Harry Potter and he also enjoyed Legos, watching Antique Road Show, and browsing Amazon for interesting finds. He looked forward to taking trips to Florida, walking around Stolley Park, and, of course, enjoying a bowl of ice cream.
Faith was an important part of Stu’s life, and he enjoyed reading and teaching the Bible and sharing his faith with others. He especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren. Christmas was his favorite holiday, a time of year he held close to his heart.
Stu Van Maasdam of Spencer and formerly of Lake Park, passed away on October 11, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius “Casey” and Donna Van Maasdam, and his brother, Darwin Van Maasdam.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Shelly (Bill) Boles, Stewart Jr. (Hannah) Van Maasdam, Sonia (Ray) Stevens, Josh Scheirholt, Dillon Van Maasdam, and Dustin (Carrie) Van Maasdam; his sisters, Lucy Lemker, Colleen Meyer, and Marlee Schwarting; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; as well as many other family members and friends.
Arrangements are under the care of Geelan Funeral Home.
