Wesley Garth Thiessen, son of Larry and Lois (Hyde) Thiessen, was born on May 25, 1960, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He grew up on a farm north of Everly and attended Everly High School as a Cattlefeeder and remained rooted in the community he called home.
In 1985, he married Starr Haldin, and together were blessed with two daughters, Nicole and Jade. Wes loved his daughters deeply and made it a priority to be present for the moments that mattered most. He walked his girls down the aisle and joyfully welcomed his five granddaughters. He had a special soft spot for all of his girls.
Wes worked at the elevator, farmed with his family and in later years he farmed side by side with his brother Kevin, and spent many years as a truck driver. He was adventurous, a tad stubborn, and a kind hearted man, who built his life around family, friends, and the outdoors.
He enjoyed attending any activity his daughters and granddaughters participated in over the years, from sporting events to dance recitals. Every holiday and family gathering was spent around a crowded table sharing stories, playing cards or simply spending time together. He valued time with family, and cherished every opportunity to be together.
Wes also greatly enjoyed spending time with his close group of friends in Everly. Evenings were spent sharing stories, laughter, and camaraderie. Those simple times — surrounded by good friends and good conversation — were ones he truly valued and looked forward to.
Grilling, fishing, side-by-side rides, motorcycle rides, and tractor rides on his Farmall H were some of his favorite things. He took pride in his “big boy toys” and always kept them shined up and looking their best. He was the kind of man who showed up whenever someone needed him. Whether it was helping his daughters tackle yet another home improvement project, fixing cars or pulling them out of snow banks or side-by-sides out of the river mud, he was always there to help.
His love was practical and generous, expressed by the simple, powerful act of being there.
Wes unexpectedly passed away Thursday, February 12th, 2026 at the age of 65. He will be remembered for his strong will, his adventurous spirit, his deep love for family, and the way he showed up for the people who mattered most. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Shelley Thiessen.
He is survived by his daughters, Nicki (Justin) Lange of Greenville and Jade (Charlie) Woodall of Royal; his granddaughters, Haleigh, Nora, Emma, Callie, and Collins; his brother, Kevin (Chanda) Thiessen of Everly; his uncle, Jim (Gina) Thiessen of Castle Rock; as well as many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
